The catalogue of movies that John Hughes wrote in the 1980s is truly amazing. He also directed many of the films, but his writing was more prolific. Here’s a list of the best films written by John Hughes throughout the 80s. With the end of the Decade of Awesome 80s, Mr. Hughes saw most of his movie magic end also. Only one of the thirteen movies he wrote during the 90s (Home Alone, 1990) would even hope to appear on this stellar list:

  1. Christmas Vacation (1989)

2. Ferris Bueler’s Day Off (1986)

3. The Breakfast Club (1985)

4. Pretty In Pink (1986)

5. National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983)

6. The Great Outdoors (1988)

7. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987)

8. Mr. Mom (1983)

What an amazing string of success! Mr. Hughes had other movies throughout the 80s that didn’t make this list. They include: Uncle Buck, Some Kind of Wonderful, Sixteen Candles, European Vacation, Weird Science, and She’s Having a Baby. Just an incredible run of knowing what your audience wants.
